About the Artist: Grandma Moses, who died at the age of 101 in 1961, was a self-taught painter who began to paint at the age of 76, after her hands became too stiff to embroider. In her obituary (which is lovely and you should take a few minutes to read), "critics called her work 'lovable,' 'fresh,' 'charming,' 'adorable' and 'full of naive and childlike joy...There emanates from her paintings a light-hearted optimism; the world she shows us is beautiful and it is good. You feel at home in all these pictures, and you know their meaning.'" She painted landscapes depicting simple country life created from her memories.
I look back on my life like a good day’s work, it was done and I feel satisfied with it. I was happy and contented, I knew nothing better and made the best out of what life offered. And life is what we make it, always has been, always will be. ~Grandma Moses
